If you have completed or are enrolled in the final semester of a Bachelor’s programme, you are eligible to apply for the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master (EMJM) in Global Environment and Development (MERGED).

How to apply
You must create an application in the Application Portal and upload all required and relevant documentation. This is the only way you can apply for admission.
You are only allowed to submit a maximum of three applications to University of Copenhagen (UCPH) study programs with the same study start.
Any additional applications will be cancelled by the MSc Admissions office at UCPH.
There is no limit to how many Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters Programmes you can apply for across universities.
KEEP TRACK OF YOUR APPLICATION
Once you have applied for admission, you will receive updates and messages from the University of Copenhagen in the application portal. When you receive a message in the application portal, a notification will be sent to the email account that you have registered in your application. Please note that emails from the application portal may end up in your spam filter.
We recommend not using your student email account when creating your application as some universities close student accounts once a student has completed their degree.
TIPS AND TRICKS FOR THE APPLICATION PORTAL
- Use Firefox or Google Chrome as your browser when creating, submitting, and accessing your application.
- Read the user guide for the application portal when filling out your application.
- Use the FAQ where you can find answers to the most common questions concerning the application portal.
- Contact SCIENCE Student Services at UCPH if you cannot find the answers, you are looking for in the FAQ.
- Contact the Service desk at the UCPH if you have technical problems.
You will receive all information regarding your application in the application portal.
If you fulfil the admission requirements and there are places available in the Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters programme , we will offer you admission to the MSc programme that is the highest of your priorities.
If you do not fulfil the admissions requirements, we will send you message through the application portal.
We will be offering admission ongoing in the following periods:
- For citizens from a country outside the EU, EEA or Switzerland: from mid-March until mid-May 2024, CET
- For citizens of the EU, EEA or Switzerland: from mid-May until mid-June 2024, CET
You will only have 5 days to accept the offer, so it is important that you check the application portal regularly during this period.
ACCEPT YOUR OFFER OF ADMISSION
You need to actively accept the offer of admission within 5 days of receiving the message in the application portal. If you do not accept the offer before the deadline, you will lose your place in the Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters programme in Global Environment and Developments (MERGED) as it will be offered to another applicant.
We highly recommend that you check the status of your application regularly in the application portal.
Your admission offer is conditional and will include a list of conditions you must meet in order to obtain full admission, e.g., certified documentation for completed bachelor’s degree. We will inform you of the deadlines and how to meet the conditions in the offer of admission.
CHECK YOUR EMAIL REGULARLY
When you receive a message in the application portal, a notification is sent to the email account you have registered in your application. Please make sure that emails from the application portal do not end up in your spam filter.
APPEAL AGAINST THE RESULT OF YOUR APPLICATION
You may submit an appeal regarding legal issues such as legal errors and irregularities if you find that the decision does not comply with Danish legislation. You cannot file an appeal against the assessment of your academic qualifications made by the assessment committee.
An appeal shall be submitted within two-weeks of receiving the result to the University of Copenhagen via msc-admissions @ science.ku.dk. An appeal on grounds of legal matters must be made in writing, and you must state exactly on which grounds you believe that the decision is not in compliance with the applicable legislation. As part of your application, you must submit all required documentation (see below).
Application fee, tuition fees and scholarships
There is no application fee when applying for the Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters (EMJM) in Global Environment and Development (MERGED)
Citizens from EU/EEA or Switzerland do not pay a tuition fees
Citizens from outside EU/EEA or Switzerland must pay tuition fees.
If you apply for the Erasmus Mundus Scholarship and get selected for the scholarship, you will be granted a tuition fee waiver.
When you apply for admission to the Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters (EMJM) in Global Environment and Development (MERGED), you will be asked if you also wish to apply for the Erasmus Mundus scholarship
Collect documentation for your application
As part of your application, you must submit additional documentation (see below).
You must upload an official transcript of grades for the qualifying degree you have completed or are currently enrolled in.
The document must include:
- Full name
- Date of birth
- Title of degree
- Date of completion (if you have graduated)
- An official stamp/watermark
- A signature from your university/educational institution
If your transcript does not include the stamp and signature, we must be able to verify the transcript digitally/online via a link, QR code, digital signature or similar. Ask your educational institution whether it is possible.
IF THE TRANSCRIPT IS IN A LANGUAGE OTHER THAN ENGLISH
We only accept an official English translation from your educational institution or an authorised translator and it must include an official stamp and signature.
Deadline to upload your transcript of grades:
- For citizens from a country outside the EU, EEA or Switzerland: 15 January 2024, CET
- For citizens of the EU, EEA or Switzerland: 1 March 2024, CET
You must upload an updated version of your C.V. (maximum of 3 pages) including a chronological overview of your academic history.
A photo is not necessary.

We use your grade point average (GPA) as a selection criterion when we receive more applications than available spots on the MSc Programme.
If your transcript is with:
- Different grading systems/levels
You must upload your transcript instead of using the GPA calculator. - Letter grades that cannot be converted to number grades

All other applicantsYou must calculate your GPA in percentage using our GPA calculator. We use this information to compare GPAs from universities with different grading systems.

Once you have calculated your GPA in percentage, you must enter the number in your application and upload the completed calculator sheet.
Please note, that the number (GPA in percentage) you have entered cannot be altered in the system after you have submitted your application.
You must upload documentation that you fulfil the requirement of English proficiency before the deadline, or your application will be cancelled.
We only accept certain types of documentation/language tests. Please find information on how to fulfil the language requirement here.

You must upload a copy or scan of your valid passport/national I.D. It must be in English and include the following information:
- Photo
- Full name
- Date of birth
- Nationality
- Expiration date
IF YOU HAVE MORE THAN ONE CITIZENSHIP
Should you have more than one passport (citizenship) please upload the passport which you will use to travel to Europe.
If you wish to apply for the Erasmus Mundus Scholarship the deadline for uploading a copy of your passport is:
- For citizens from a country outside the EU, EEA or Switzerland: 15 January 2024, CET
- For citizens of the EU, EEA or Switzerland: 1 March 2024, CET
If you are not applying for the Erasmus Mundus Scholarship, the deadline for uploading a copy of your passport is 1 September 2024, CET.
Your letter of motivation must be of approximately 500 words, and contain:
- An explanation of why you are applying for admission to the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master’s programme in Global Environment and Development (MERGED).
- An explanation of why you have prioritised the chosen mobility track(s).
You may also elaborate on your planned career path upon completion of the Masters’ programme.
Deadline for uploading your letter of motivation:

You must upload two letters of recommendation if you want to apply for the Erasmus Mundus Scholarship.
At least one must be from an academic contact (e.g., teacher, supervisor).
The letters of recommendation must include
- a letterhead
- the complete contact information of the referee: name, address, e-mail address and telephone number
Deadline for uploading your two letters of recommendation:
- For citizens from a country outside the EU, EEA or Switzerland: 15 January 2024, CET
- For citizens of the EU, EEA or Switzerland: 1 March 2024, CET
You must upload proof of your current country of residence to confirm your eligibility for admission and for the Erasmus Mundus Scholarship.
We can receive your proof of country of residence in the 2 following ways:
- A residence certificate issued in accordance with your municipality, region or states normal registration rules.
- An official letter by your current place of work, study or training issued by the employer or institution in question, confirming your current place of residence.
The document must include:
- Your full name
- Date of birth
- Your address
- The issue date
- A signature and stamp of the issuing party
The documentation for proof of residence cannot be more than 6 months old at the application deadline.
Your application will be rejected if you have not provided proof of your current country of residence in one of the two above mentioned ways by the application deadline.

Upload your official diploma for the qualifying degree you have completed. It must carry an official stamp and a signature from your university, or we must be able to verify the diploma online.

- For citizens of the EU, EEA or Switzerland: 1 March 2024, CET
IF THE DIPLOMA IS IN A LANGUAGE OTHER THAN ENGLISH
We only accept an official English translation from your educational institution, or an authorized translator and it must include an official stamp and signature.
IF YOU HAVE NOT COMPLETED YOUR BACHELOR’S DEGREE AT THE TIME OF APPLICATION
In this case you provide us with proof of your completed bachelor’s degree no later than 20 September in one of the following ways:
- Send us a copy of your bachelor’s diploma by email
Send the copy to msc-admissions@science.ku.dk. It is important that you use the email account that you registered in the application portal.
The copy can be either a PDF, a scan, or a photo of your official diploma.
The document must be verified and include:
- Your full name
- date of birth
- title of your degree
- date of completion for all your required ECTS
- Your university to confirm your degree by email to msc-admissions@science.ku.dk
It must be sent from an official university e-mail account that can be verified online.
The e-mail must include:
- Your full name
- date of birth
- title of your degree
- date of completion for all your required ECTS
- Online verification of your degree
An email from you or your university with a link to an online verification service that confirms:
- Your full name
- date of birth
- title of your degree
- date of completion for all your required ECTS
Upload only the required documentation
We only evaluate required documentation when assessing your application. Therefore, you should only upload the required documentation.
Anything missing in your application?
You must upload all required documentation when submitting your application. If anything is missing, we will send you a message in the application portal. You will then have one week to provide the missing documents. Be sure to check your e-mail and spam filter regularly.
Falsified information and document forgery
Providing falsified or misleading documentation in your application will be reported to the police and we will cancel your application/admission.
The visa process
If you are a non- EU/EEA/Switzerland applicant, we will not initiate your online visa application until you have fulfilled all conditions of your admission.
